A brand new house for the Mngomenzulus

The house was officially handed over by Mr Sibusiso Ngomane, Senior Manager: Communications and Special Projects at the Transnet Foundation, at a ceremony in Esithangamini, about 40km north of Nongoma in KwaZulu Natal. It boasts 4 bedrooms, a lounge, kitchenette, shower and toilet. There are also 3 water tanks outside to harvest water from the rains. An electricity connection is due any moment. The house also has a water system and a geyser.

It is now fully furnished with 5 beds, kitchen cupboards, TV stand and TV, 4 wardrobes, a stove, sinks and a fridge. Also handed over was a 21 piece pot set, bedding including sheets, blankets and curtains. The Soul Buddyz Club is yet to buy plates and mugs. Burglar bars will soon be installed for improved security.

Mr Ngomane said: “We would like to thank our partners, the Department of Education and Nthuthuko Soul Buddyz Club for their undying efforts to bring this project to reality. We are happy now that the new Mngomezulu house is now complete and being handed over to ugogo. This is part of what the Transnet Foundation does among many other initiatives within our communities – to try and uplift those in need and give them strength and hope to look up to the future.”

Ntuthuko Buddyz Club recognized the plight of the 71-year old mother and created worthy partnerships with government and private organisations with the aim of helping the family. Transnet Foundation grant beneficiary Gogo Mngomezulu had 10 children, 6 of them are late and is now survived by 4 who are not working. She has 3 grown up grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
