Transnet signs MOU with Ekurhuleni College

The signing and handing over ceremony was also attended by Transnet GE Human Resources, Nonkululeko Sishi, who said Transnet’s commitment to support the college as a strategic partner in skills development was illustrated by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, in line with government’s prescribed National Skills Accord.

Sishi explained that Transnet, as an innovation and engineering company, and as a partner, can draw upon a broad pool of specialists and experts as well as extensive experience in projects related and linked to its core business to benefit receiving organisations.

Transnet was particularly delighted with the relationship, Sishi pointed out, primarily in the knowledge that its involvement will allow multitudes of students to learn key critical technical skills equipping them with competencies to make a difference in their communities.

 “We live in a country where there is no shortage of opportunities for creating a lasting impact through partnerships. Yet, in some circles, community involvement programmes are not fully optimised. Our support to this college is a solid demonstration of our commitment to the National Skills Accord, creating employment opportunities to bring about social change,” she highlighted.

 “We remain committed to building a healthier, better educated and skilled population that is positive about our country and motivated to grab the opportunities that empower them to live fulfilled lives. People who believe in themselves and in the future are the building blocks of South Africa’s economic success.

 “The occasion we are celebrating today reflects our innovative model to partnerships, that is, it matches Transnet’s broad wealth of skills, assets, competencies and knowledge with the broad range of developmental needs of this College – especially as far as skills development is concerned.”

 Sishi also acknowledged that addressing the vast needs in South Africa remains a daunting task, however as Transnet, the company believes in making the greatest possible impact by identifying critical areas of need.

 “Our attention is drawn into projects that will empower individuals to empower their own communities. By investing in our people and our institutions we will create the foundation for economic success and sustainability in South Africa as a whole.”

 She concluded her speech by reminding the delegates and students that our former president, Nelson Mandela once said: “We must keep it in mind at all times, that there can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its own children.”
