In its 12th year, the Oliver Empowerment Awards remain the most established premier awards for Leadership and innovation in Empowerment and Transformation. Transnet Foundation is proud to be associated with such a prestigious event that has undoubtedly created a legacy of inspiration for the country's business elite.

Kagiso Morodi, a Transnet Foundation teacher intern programme candidate was born in the northern parts of Pretoria called Hammanskraal, Majaneng, Selosecha. As a young boy at both primary and lower secondary school Kagiso had the heart to be a good solver of mathematical problems but didn’t have the skills set. It was not until he went to Makgetse High School, where he met a brilliant and unique mathematics teacher called Mr Maroga.

A secondary school located in a rural community of Ngxabaxha, Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape has struck it lucky as it received a computer lab housing 55 computers and two printers, courtesy of Transnet (SOC) Limited in the month of April 2013.

“Without a shadow of a doubt I do share the sentiments of past MACC students that my time on the Phelophepa will be a time I will cherish for the rest of my life. When you hear the former MACCs talk about their time on the Health train, many of them refer to their professional development. I do agree that the range of patients one is exposed to in two weeks is equivalent to the ones we normally hope to see in the inter year,” says Mapule Moroke, a former Phelophepa train psychology student.

Through its social investment arm, Transnet Foundation, Transnet (SOC) Limited continues to invest in community projects that instils hope and brings back wide smiles to the faces of the Slovo Park underprivileged.

Our ‘miracle train’, the Phelophepa has over the years produced shining stars that have gone on to make a mark for themselves through improving the quality of life for those they interact with. The Transnet Foundation’s flagship programme sees more than 1200 final year medical students through its practical or experiential programme.

The Transnet Foundation says it has held an exciting, educative and informative workshop directed at its youth held at the Esselen Park School of Rail from Monday the 24th of March ending the 27th of March, 2013.
